SGHS FBLA Makes Their Mark at State Leadership Conference

San Gabriel High School Future Business Leaders of America members took their talents to 
the three-day State Leadership Conference at the Sacramento Convention Center from April 6-9. Members arrived eager to not only put their skills to the test, but also to build relationships and gain valuable experience that will help them in their future endeavors.

The competitive events portion of the event featured over 2400 students testing the business skills they have learned in the classroom in a variety of individual events. San Gabriel HS had a strong showing and took home three awards: Lilian Zhang took 2nd place for Advertising, Lexie Tang placed 7th in Securities and Investment and Justin Phan took 9nth place in Business Calculations. In addition, Lilian Zhang also qualified to compete at the National Competition in Anaheim, California, June 29-July 2, 2017. San Gabriel High School was awarded the Goes Green Project, Government Awareness Project and Chapter Excellence Award at the conference. These awards focus on leadership, business skills, involvement in the community and require many hours of hard work and dedication.

Following competition, there were a number of workshops that students had the opportunity to attend in order to build on their skills, including Networking 101, Marketing and Advertising in the Digital Age, Writing A Personal Statement, How to Dress for Success, College Prep & What to Expect, Public Speaking Skill Every Student Should Know and Making Connections. Students came away from this experience with not only a number of accolades but also new connections, experiences and knowledge that will last a lifetime.
