Park Elementary School Named as 2012-13 Academic Achievement Award Recipient

On April 16, 2013, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced
that AUSD’s Park Elementary School has been named as a 2012-13 Title I Academic
Achievement Award Recipient.

“These schools serve students facing real challenges, and they’ve risen to meet them
through hard work and dedication,” says Torlakson. “It is inspiring to see their students
achieve more in the classroom today so they can enjoy more opportunity in the years
 to come.”

Park is one of only 56 schools that received recognition out of 6,000 Title I schools
in California.  Title I is one of the programs under the Federal No Child Left Behind
Act designed to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students.

The criteria to qualify for the Title I Academic Achievement Award have become
more rigorous in recent years. To meet the criteria for this distinction, schools must
demonstrate that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency
on California's academic content standards. Additionally, the school's
socio-economically disadvantaged students must have doubled the achievement
targets set for them for two consecutive years.

“This award validates our staff’s commitment and dedication to ensuring that ALL
students are successful,” says Principal Amy Rush.  “Our staff is proud to teach at
Park Elementary School and to be part of a dedicated staff and school community.”

Park Elementary will be honored at a regional award ceremony on May 13, 2013.
