Biography

On August 8, 2023, Justin Wang took his Oath of Office and became the Alhambra Unified School District’s first-ever Student Board Member. In this capacity, he also serves as chairperson of the 12 students elected to the District’s Student Advisory Council (SAC).

Justin, currently a senior at Alhambra High School, noticed many issues that affected students' day-to-day lives and their ability to meet their full potential. As a leader on campus, Justin collaborated with his peers to address those problems and engaged closely with his community — a work ethic he says his parents instilled in him. When the District announced the addition of a Student Board Member, Justin knew this would be an opportunity for him to create lasting change in his school, the district, and the wider community.

Justin reflects on his time serving as Student Board Member thus far as an informative and empowering experience. “One of the things I’ve learned is that there are so many factors that go into every decision being made, and there needs to be careful consideration. I’m glad that students are now a factor that is considered here in the district. It takes a lot of effort to keep the district running, and we really appreciate the work the Board Members, Superintendent, and District Staff are putting into the students’ education and experiences.”

On behalf of AUSD, Justin has attended a variety of events within the community. He says the highlights of his time in office include “learning about how the district runs and meeting new people from whom I can learn. The positivity I see during the board meetings when teachers and students are recognized is very inspiring. The most fun part is leading the SAC meetings as the SAC chairperson and attending events to represent the students in the district.”

In addition to his role as AUSD Student Board Member and SAC Chairperson, Justin holds several leadership roles at AHS. He is currently president of MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement), co-captain of the AHS badminton team, and co-founder of the Alhambra Climate Team. He is also a member of Interact service club, AP Ambassadors, and Link Crew, and he was the former Junior class council secretary.

After graduating in May, Justin plans to major in Biochemistry and attend a four-year university. He hopes to pursue a career in public service that also engages his passion for STEM, such as being a researcher for a government agency. Before leaving AUSD to pursue his postsecondary goals, Justin will support the next generation of student leaders and future student board members by being a co-facilitator at the leadership and team building training for the 2024-25 Student Advisory Council at the end of the school year.
