MKHS Dance Defends National Title

At the 50th golden anniversary of U.S. Nationals on the weekend of March 24th, the Mark Keppel High School All Male Dance Team took home 1st place in Medium/Large Male Hip Hop, defending their title. In doing so, they qualified in the top 10 teams for the Overall U.S. Grand National Championship. They re-competed against other top dance genres during the finals and won that event as well, as they were highest scoring performance of the entire event. This unprecedented accomplishment marks the first time that an All Male Hip Hop team has won the Grand National Championship.

In addition, the All Male team also won 2nd place in the international Small Male Hip Hop category, edging out Takaoka Daiichi High School from Japan and landing closely behind the winning West Torrance High School. Also, the Dance Team won 4th place in Medium Female Hip Hop. Finally, the "Alice in Wonderland" themed show production number, featuring 110 students from the dance department, won 3rd place.

Dance coach Activate Arroyo and the various dance teams have spent many hours to make this year's dance team a tremendous success. Congratulations to Coach Arroyo, his performers and the parents and community members who volunteered their time to make this a truly memorable experience.
