Baldwin Elementary PTA Wins Google Express Grand Prize

This spring, Martha Baldwin Elementary School won the grand prize in a nationwide contest sponsored by National PTA and Google Express. In April, Baldwin PTA President Dawna Yip entered a competition on Facebook titled Teacher Appreciation Week #ThankATeacher contest. This contest was open to every school in America and required a PTA member to submit a photo or video on social media depicting their teachers’ importance with the hashtag #ThankATeacher. The picture was to be accompanied by a brief essay describing how the school’s teachers have a positive impact on their students and the school itself.

Once all submissions were entered, a panel of 5-7 judges appointed by National PTA graded the entries to determine the winners. According to National PTA, each item was graded based on “the positive impact of the entry (50%), the potential impact of the entry (30%) and the strength and clarity of the essay (20%).” Of the hundreds of entries received by National PTA, Martha Baldwin won the grand prize of a $4500 Google Express Shopping Spree to go towards improving the school’s teacher’s lounge along with a Google Home device.

To commemorate the teachers, Baldwin held a surprise announcement during National Teachers Appreciation Week ceremony where Google representatives, Dawna Yip and Superintendent Laura Tellez-Gagliano presented Baldwin teachers with their well-deserved gifts. As expected, teachers were ecstatic to learn of their national recognition as well as their newly supplied teacher’s lounge. Some of the items included a new toaster, coffee maker, TV, oven mitts, chairs and patio furniture. Baldwin teachers look forward to putting these gifts to use and will continue to provide a great educational experience for their students
