San Gabriel High School

San Gabriel High School has been announced as one of the California schools selected for prestigious Honor Roll issued by The Campaign for Business & Education Excellence. The same group recently spent time at SGHS observing classes and interviewing some of our teachers regarding the best teaching practices taking place in many of our classrooms. Recently, there has been much discussion around the topic of the non-reelection of one of our teachers. In order to provide clarity regarding the facts, I have attached a letter that I have sent to the Matador. I hope they will post the letter. I am also providing it here because I feel it is important for the community to have a clear understanding of the facts. Thank you.

We have a new attendance policy in place that teachers will be following. Positive attendance puts our students on the road to success and increases their chances of being successful. Consequences for truancy and tardiness can include detention during the day, after school, and/or on Saturday. Excessive tardiness can result in meetings with school and local authorities. The biggest thing being tardy does is put you at a deficit from being successful and it also disrupts your classmates from their learning when you walk in late. Teacher aides are also expected to be on time. There will be additional consequences for those who are tardy to first period. Please click the attachment to see the entire policy.

It is important to have your students to campus on time, but it is also important that it is done safely. Please drive safely in the areas surrounding campus. U-turns on Ramona are illegal and dangerous. The last thing we want is for someone to get hurt or at the least get a ticket.
Tardy Sweeps: We will begin collecting names of students who are late to campus. They will be assigned a 30 minute detention. If the student does not show up, they will then have a 45 minute detention.
Success begins with being on time.

This year, we are hosting a parent academy. On five separate nights, a different administrative office will host a parent's night. Our goal is for you to get to know our school, let us know how we can serve you and your student better, and provide you with the tools to help your student be successful. The first meeting is Wednesday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m. We will have a graduation ceremony at a football game for parents attending 4 of 5 workshops. Please click on the heading for more details.

The corner of San Gabriel & Hellman has been temporarily changed to Dorothy and San Gabriel. This is due to street construction and is unknown as to how long this will be in effective.
